How We Control SMT PCB Quality for Automotive Star Light Controllers

01 — Why PCB Quality Matters in Star Light Systems

In automotive star light systems, the controller PCB is the core of the entire lighting experience.

It directly controls:

  • fiber optic light stability
  • RGB / RGBIC color accuracy
  • brightness consistency
  • system lifespan

Even a small SMT defect can cause:

  • unstable light output
  • flickering fibers
  • color mismatch
  • early system failure

That is why SMT quality control is one of the most critical steps in our production process.

02 — SMT Assembly Process in Coojen Factory

At Coojen, all star light controller PCBs are produced through a strict SMT (Surface Mount Technology) process.

The full process includes:

Step 1 — Incoming Material Inspection (IQC)

Before SMT production starts, all components are checked:

  • IC chips
  • resistors and capacitors
  • MOSFET drivers
  • PCB substrates

Only approved materials enter production.

Step 2 — SMT Placement (High Precision Mounting)

Automated SMT machines place components onto PCB boards with high accuracy.

Key control points:

  • placement accuracy within microns
  • anti-missing component detection
  • polarity verification
  • real-time machine monitoring

This ensures every controller board is consistent.

Step 3 — Reflow Soldering

PCBs go through high-temperature reflow ovens.

We control:

  • temperature curve stability
  • solder paste melting quality
  • board heating uniformity

This step determines long-term reliability.

Step 4 — AOI Optical Inspection

After SMT, every PCB goes through AOI (Automated Optical Inspection).

The system checks:

  • solder joint quality
  • component alignment
  • missing or misaligned parts
  • short circuits

Defective boards are automatically removed.

03 — Functional Testing for Every Controller Board

Unlike many suppliers, SMT inspection alone is not enough.

We also perform functional testing:

Each PCB is tested for:

  • RGB signal output
  • IC communication stability
  • voltage load performance (12V system)
  • channel response for fiber outputs

Only fully working boards move to assembly.

04 — Aging Test for Stability (Key for Star Light Systems)

After assembly, controllers enter aging test stage.

Each unit runs under continuous load to simulate real usage.

We test:

  • continuous 4–8 hour operation
  • heat resistance stability
  • color consistency over time
  • voltage fluctuation resistance

This ensures long-term reliability for automotive environments.

05 — Final Quality Control Before Packaging

Before shipping, every batch goes through final QC:

  • random sampling inspection
  • lighting function re-check
  • connector durability check
  • packaging verification

Only qualified batches are allowed for shipment.

06 — Why This Matters for Automotive Brands

For brand owners and customization shops, PCB quality directly impacts:

  • customer reviews
  • product return rate
  • brand reputation
  • market competitiveness

That is why OEM buyers choose factories with real SMT + testing capability, not just assembly workshops.

07 — Coojen Manufacturing Position

Coojen is not just assembling star light systems.

We design and manufacture the full lighting system:

  • SMT PCB controller production
  • fiber optic light system assembly
  • automotive-grade testing
  • OEM & ODM customization support

This allows us to support brands from concept → production → mass delivery.
